Rivers of Grace – Our Vision: Outreach

Intro: Every church needs to answer: “Why do we exist?” What is our prophetic destiny? Our Vision since we began on July 4, 2000: M.O.R.E. Mercy, Outreach, Renewal, Education

Rivers of Outreach:
News so good we have to share it with the neighbors and the nations.

Luke 4:18-19 How do you preach to the poor, free the prisoners, open blind eyes, and relieve the oppressed?
“You build it and they will come.” Might work for the field of dreams, but not for the church. If you want the meat of God’s Word – the meat is in the street. God never commanded the world to come to a church. Fish do not normally jump into the boat!

Water must flow to stay fresh and clean. Ez. 47:1-12 The water got deeper the farther away from the source.
Neh. 8:10 Enjoy the juice, but do not forget those for who nothing is prepared.

The results of revival is a river not salt in piles or a stagnant pool. Gen. 11:1-4 When they settled in one spot, they built city, a religion, and a name for themselves.

He commanded us to go and preach, go and disciple, go and be a witness as the salt and light. The verbal part: How shall they hear without a preacher? (Rom. 10:14) The life witness is the quiet part. We are learning to walk the talk. What is the common imperative? GO! We call it the Great Commission in the first 5 books of the New Testament: Mathew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Luke 24:47-49; John 20:21; Acts 1:8

Evangelist – Original meaning of the Greek word - a person sent with good news to proclaim.
Evangelism – to preach glad tidings
Evangelical Christians see the value in telling others the Jesus story. We believe Rom. 1:15 that the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

Evangelical believers are found in many churches, denominations and nations: Reformed, Holiness, Anabaptist, Pentecostal, Charismatic and other traditions. Four primary characteristics of evangelicals provide unity in the midst of our diversity.
1. The belief that lives need to be transformed through a “born-again” experience and a lifelong process of following Jesus.
2. Activism: the expression and demonstration of the gospel in missionary and social reform efforts.
3. A high regard for and obedience to the Bible as the ultimate authority.
4. A stress on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as making possible the redemption of humanity. (David Bebbington)
These convictions define us, not political, social, or cultural trends.

Rivers of Grace Church supports these outreaches: Programs on TCTV (Thurston County public TV), J5OM, a Christian rock band with many of their concerts at prisons, Carenet (Crisis pregnancy and parenting), Tuesday and Thursday night outreach, Wednesday night prison, Church without Walls in Shelton, Thanksgiving Dinner, 4th of July picnic, etc. Ken B. said he started the Community Kitchen in Shelton because the Lord wanted him to establish a fishing hole in the downtown area.

We are praying for creative ways to meet needs and share good news. “Find a need and meet it; find a hurt and heal it.” (Robert Schuller’s original outreach slogan)

Luke 14:16-24 (Mat. 22:2-14) We are servants inviting people to a wedding feast. The invited guests refused to come so the servants were ordered to bring in the broken from the streets and alleys. Then the master sent them to the country. Mat. 22:10 They gathered everyone they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

Psalm 96:2-3, 10 Show forth His Salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all peoples… Say among the nations, “The Lord Reigns.”
