More About Us - Our Values & Spiritual Priorities
Worship
John 4:23-24 The time has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
We place a high value on worship. Our greatest goal is to minister to Jesus Christ and glorify Him through anointed music. If we accomplish nothing else but this when we come together, we will be happy. The Father is not looking for workers. He is looking for worshippers. If He finds worshippers, they can become good workers. Ministry flows out of relationship with God.
Rivers of Grace will use Hillsong, Vineyard, and other contemporary worship music. We see no Scriptural limitations to a variety of styles and musical instruments that the Holy Spirit can use to draw hearts toward God. Outreach ministry may be extra loud and include alternative Christian music.
During our normal worship times you will often see people clapping and lifting their hands to God, dancing, kneeling, or lying on the floor in humility before God. However, this is not only a lively, noisy bunch, but also a reverent people who desire to express a heart of worship to a Holy God. We find most of the justification for what we do in the book of Psalms.
Prayer
'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.' (Mark 11:17 NIV) We want prayer to characterize our church. Prayer is as simple as talking to God and listening for His voice. Worship and prayer are two of the primary means of building a relationship with God. Telling Him our joys, problems, and needs. Intercession and spiritual warfare are also vital to maintaining victory in the church and advancing the kingdom of God.
The Bible
"If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32 NKJ) Knowing the Bible is essential to our faith. It is the yardstick whereby we measure all that is said and done. We need the Holy Spirit to fill our tanks to get down the road. We need the Bible to keep us from going into the ditch.
Fun - Food - Fellowship
"If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." (1 John 1:7NIV) We are not a white-knuckle club. "The joy of the Lord is our strength. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Nehemiah 8:10; Romans 14:17) Having fun, eating together, and hanging out together may be the most important 'program' we have!
Serving believers and unbelievers through acts of kindness.
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." The night before Jesus went to the cross, He washed the disciples' feet as an example of servant leadership. If we serve people, we may become discouraged. We are the servants of God to people. "If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Mark 10:43-45NIV; John 13:1-15; Galatians 1:10 NIV; 1 Kings 12:6-8)
Training: mentoring disciples through relationship, impartation, teaching, and action. We are not taking the militant approach that is popular today. Although there are references to God's army, we see the New Testament is primarily relational. Therefore we want to approach everything we do from a relational theological base: relationship to God, mentors, the family of God, and unbelievers. We believe it is possible to be on-fire and self-disciplined without being heavily regulated. Discussion, briefing, prayer and praise, laying-on-of-hands with prophecy, Bible study, and exposure to real-life ministry are the framework for training.
Sending: commissioning people for ministry, outreach, church planting, and missions. We will license and ordain those whom we train and those whom the Spirit brings to us.
