A Life Marked by Miracles!
Psalm 77:14 You are the God who performs miracles...
There are 2 kinds of people: those who believe in miracles and those who don't. There are Christians in both of these groups! What kind of person are you?
Can everything be explained by science, a natural explanation? Sometimes the explanation takes more faith than just believing in the miracle. For example: crossing of the Red Sea.
Of course true atheists do not believe in a spirit world of any sort. Christian or not, most people believe in something: their lucky coin, ghosts, etc. - something beyond natural expectation. Santa, the prophetic premonitions of their pet parakeet...
God has 2 sets of laws: the natural laws - gravity, math, physics, chemistry, etc. The supernatural does not deny the natural.
C.S. Lewis said a miracle is the interference of the natural by supernatural power. Or God superimposes His invisible law over the visible.
Every true Christian believes in at least one miracle: Rom. 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Many Christians believe that the Jesus, the Son of God, and His disciples performed miracles, but, for some reason, God does not do these things today. The last place to get healed or see a miracle is in a church that does not believe in anything supernatural. They say anything miraculous has a natural explanation, is coincidental, a product of psychology or superstition. It would be easier to get miracle out on the street! Western world exalts the human mind. Other cultures operate from a mentality that the supernatural is a normal reality.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
1. We believe miracles continue today.
2. True miracles defy logic and natural laws of science.
3. Jesus Christ works miracles through His people, you and me!
4. The purpose of miracles is to glorify God.
A miracle is God overriding the natural laws He has set in motion. Miracles reveal the nature and power of God.
1. Creative miracles: John 2 Jesus turned water into wine. In Mark 6 and 8 Jesus took a small amount of bread and fed a thousands of people. Stomach recreated after 15 yrs!
2. Miracles of deliverance: Mark 5 Jesus set a madman free from demonic possession.
3. Miracles over nature: When He commanded the storm to be calm or walked on water.
4. Miracles of healing: John 9 man born blind could see after Jesus applied the saliva and mud; Acts 4:22 man born lame received a "miracle of healing" Roberta - given 6 months, lived 20 yrs. In P.I. man told, "You will never walk again." He woke up healed the morning after we prayed for him. In India 70 out of 80 students in the deaf school received their hearing!
5. Miracles of resurrection: Luke 7 Jesus ruined a good funeral by raising a widow's son from the dead. John 11 Lazarus came alive after 4 days. Acts 9 Peter raised Tabitha. Mozambique: lady who was the greatest critic died and came to life shouting, "Listen to the preacher. He's telling the truth!" My son and I with the dead man on the sidewalk. I rebuked death and he came alive.
Miracles today produce a sense of fear and wonder. Luke 4:16 A fear came on them and they glorified God.
Miracles should accompany our message. 1 out of 10 Muslims come to Christ through a supernatural manifestation: a dream, a vision, a healing. Romans 15:17-20 Fully preach the gospel. 1 Cor. 2:1-4 Not enticing words of man's wisdom, but preaching the cross and power.
Should we expect miracles occasionally or daily?
Israel, God's people, lived by daily miracles for 40 yrs. Food provided. Also note: Deu. 29:5 Their clothes did not wear out nor the shoes on their feet. When they went into the promised land, those miracles ceased, but they needed different miracles to possess what was promised as a gift to them.
If you follow the life of Elijah in 1 Kings chapters 17, 19 you will see God's miraculous provision kept changing over time.
Miracles are part of a normal Christian life. In a dark world, God's light guides us and our paths are marked by miracles. Miracles are not only for Jesus yesterday, but also for me today.
My experience with miracles are worthless unless they confirm the Truth - Jesus Christ. Deu. 13:1-4
Do you need a miracle? Start by focusing on the God who makes impossible things possible.
Do you want to have a walk with God that is marked by miracles? This is not just about you. This is about the people around us who need a miracle.
John 6:26-29 My job is to believe God will do His job.
John 14:12 Jesus said, "Greater works will you do..." The Greek word for greater means greater in quantity and/or magnitude.
