Healing the Sick Part II

The world is full of sick and broken people.
  • The local church is a healing community: spirit, soul, and body.
  • We want to provide an atmosphere of faith where healing and manifestations of the supernatural are welcome. This not abnormal or weird. This is normal, biblical Christianity.
  • We seek the Giver, not just the gifts. Raw power alone often leads to control issues (charismatic witchcraft), financial temptation, inflated egos.
  • "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)
  • Doctors use chemotherapy and physical therapy. We use Holy Spirit therapy.
  • Study your craft. Go through the Gospels and Acts. They demonstrate ministry in action.

Healing in the Hands
The Hands of Jesus
  • Mark 1:29-31; Luke 4:38-39 Jesus healed Simon Peter's mother-in-law: He rebuked the fever, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to serve them!
  • Mark 5:23 the father pleads with Jesus to come and lay hands on his dying daughter.
  • Mark 5:37-40 He put the unbelief out of the room. Sometimes necessary.
  • Mark 5:41-42 Jesus took her hand and spoke to her, Get up! Luke 8:55 Her spirit returned and she stood up.
  • Mark 6:5-6 He could not do any miracles, except lay hands on a few sick people and heal them.

The Hands of the Apostles
  • Acts 3:6-8 Peter commanded the 40 yr. old man crippled from birth to stand up. He took his hand and helped him up. Walking, jumping, and praising God!
  • Acts 20:9-11 Paul wraps his arms around Eutychus and raises him from the dead.
  • Acts 28:7-9 Paul heals the politician's father. After prayer he placed hands on him and healed him.

Healing through Anointing with Oil, a Symbol of the Holy Spirit
  • Mark 6:6-7, 12-13 They preached, drove out demons, and anointed many with oil and healed them.
  • James 5:14-16 Is any sick? Call for the elders of the church to pray them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess you sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous  person is powerful and effective.

Mark 16:18 Believers... will lay hands on the sick and they will get well.

How to Lay Hands on People:
  • Ask permission to touch them. Explain that we do this because it is in the Bible.
  • You can ask questions. Jesus asked questions. (Mark 5:9; 9:21)
  • One or both hands on the head, shoulder, or the afflicted area being discreet.
  • Avoid long, religious prayers.
  • Avoid destroying a hairdo!
  • In a prayer line you might go quickly. With a team you can spend more time with people.
  • Anoint them with oil or water. 'A little dab will do ya.' Put it on the forehead.
ARE YOU A BELIEVER? Your hands are His Hands!

Here is where we hang out...
